Wheel of Holo

Welcome to the Shatter Me Claire "Wheel of Holo" page!

Back in 2012 I decided to challenge myself and own all the holos!  It seemed an achievable goal at the time but 2013 has proven that it wasn't to be as so many great Indie brands have appeared with so many pretties. Then add on my own issues with storage, costs and logic (Do I really need so many similar silver holos? Really?? Serious??)

Even with having to cull some holographic polishes in the past 12 months, I have a lot of them. A LOT. More than the average hoarder. I have 2 helmer drawers devoted entirely to holographic polishes and I'm trying very hard not to overflow and start a 3rd drawer. Currently I have 140+ swatched and own well over 100.

I've been wanting to start a section on my blog devoted to holos for a long time and there is no time like the present!  I definitely don't own something from every holographic maker on the market but I do want to share what I have with folks the interwebs.

My holo collection September 2012
Not so shabby! 35 pretties!

I decided to call my collection a wheel after I put it onto a rather large necklace wire. It is extremely easy to spin it around to add new colours and to move things around. "Necklace of Holo" just didn't have the same ring to it. Having my collection swatched like this made life so much easier. I could now easily match polish to outfits and I could see the holo strengths without having to get out every bottle and hold it up in the sunlight.

The "wheel" for the first time - December 2012
Unsure of the amount but around this time I decided to start a helmer drawer for holographics only. A second helmer drawer was started in January 2013 after I discovered how many I actually had

My "wheel of holo" contains both linear and scattered holo polishes but not the multichrome/holos which is only a personal preference and all swatches are 3 coats with no base or top coat.

To me, to be a true dupe a holographic polish needs to fit 4 criteria
1) Be the same colour in inside lighting
2) Be the same colour in the full sun
3) Be the same density
4) Have the same strength holo appear

I've found it rather rare to find polishes that fit all 4 but it depends on how badly I want something to whether I can live with a close dupe or not!
